Lately I have been so attracted to hats, even though I don’t really wear them because my head is too big, haha! I am especially obsessed with this Eugenia Kim sequin hat, but did you guys see that price?! Um, yeah.. thanks but no thanks Eugenia! So then I got to thinking about it and I said to myself: “I can totally make this!” and I did! I am so happy with how my hat turned out. I wanted to share how I made mine so that you guys can make one too! It is super easy and really inexpensive. Hope y’all enjoy!
Here’s what you’ll need:
1. a simple hat (i got mine from H&M $17.99)
3. a hot glue gun
5. a pencil (optional)
6. good music!
First you need to decide what saying you want on your hat. I decided to go with “hello sunshine” but other cute ones include:
- wish you were here
- out of office
- do not disturb
- Mrs. [your last name]
Once you decide what saying you want you can either write in pencil to have a guide or you can get straight to glue-ing it in! I chose to do the latter.
I love working with a hot glue gun because it easy to clean up and you can easily fix your mistakes if you mess up. You have to put the trim on quickly though because the glue dries fast. I kept the ribbon attached as i glued it and cut it once I was done with the word because I didn’t want to have it precut and then run short on trim.
Here is my final result. I absolutely love it! I was able to find a large size hat big enough for my head haha. I can’t wait to wear it for service or a day out on the beach (not that I got to the beach that often, you go to Galveston and have to get your foot amputated lol)!
I hope you ladies try it, it so easy and fun! It also makes a perfect gift!
If you do make one let me know, tag your pictures with #opalandcrown on instagram so I can see your pretty hats!
